About Us

Paula D. Stone, Allied Member ASID
After earning BA degrees from the University of Oklahoma in both English Literature and Interior Design, Paula moved to Dallas and became a partner in Thomas L. Gilbert, Inc. The company owned three wholesale home furnishing showrooms, two in Dallas and one Houston. As the showroom buyer, she traveled to China and Hong Kong to import fine antiques and unusual accessories.

Paula has also done product design for several furniture factories and product purchasing for both retail stores and architectural firms. She has made more than a dozen trips to the world's largest furniture market in High Point, N.C. She has bought, sold and displayed countless furniture pieces and accessories in her 20+ year career.

An active member of the Sierra Club, Paula has served on the Executive Committee and as Fund Raising Chair. She has written articles for Voices of Art magazine and articles and a column called "Design Dilemmas" for MovingOn! magazine.

I am proud to have been awarded three Super Service Awards by the nationally known consumer rating organization, Angie's List. Only 5% of the companies on their list achieve this distinction. Q. What are the normal steps in this process? 1. a brief phone discussion 2. an initial consultation 3. I tour your space, you point out your likes and dislikes 4. I talk about theory as it pertains to your issues 5. I toss out multiple solutions and we discuss their pros and cons 6. we implement the solutions you chose Sometimes it is as simple as a one time visit to rearrange things and make suggestions. Usually, one trip will take care of one room. Frequently people see how quick and easy it is and then move on to additional rooms. The speed with which this happens, depends on the time and money available to the client. After I finish, most people express some form of the following, "We should have called you sooner. We could have been living like this all along!"	What a positive difference you made in just a few hours! I knew our house had a bad "feel" but I was paralyzed by indecision, I did not know what needed to change. It took very little time for us arrange furniture in ways I never envisioned and I discovered that I really like my house and my furniture. The bonus for my husband is the wide-screen TV is now in the den since I told him for years that it would not fit. As you know, he was so pleased with your first visit he asked me to have you come back to do our bedrooms. Thanks to you we now we know what work we need to do, I'm no longer paralyzed by indecision which feels wonderful. Q. How much does it cost? A. The initial consultation is $295 for a maximum of 3 hours. After that I bill at $80 per hour. Q. What are your days and hours? A. Usually I work in San Antonio Monday thru Thursday and the Fredericksburg area on Friday. Morning appointments are at 9 or 10:00 and afternoon appointments at 1 or 2:00 . Q. Will you tell me what to do? A. Yes and no. I will work with you to help you see your options and which ones would be best in your situation. Most design problems have multiple solutions. It is challenging and satisfying to match the right solution to the right client. After the problem is identified and discussed adequately, the right solution usually surfaces. I will not try to impose a particular style on you. I want to help you find your own style.	I want to thank you so much for doing such a nice job for us. The color selection is just perfect, it is warm, it flows nicely, it is just what we wanted and needed. And Enrique is delighted with his "gallery-living room". Q. What is your favorite style? A. I don't have a favorite style. I like all styles which are done well and no styles which are done poorly. The same goes for color. There are no bad colors, only colors badly chosen for their placement. Q. Are you 'green'? A. Yes! Every chance I get. 'Green' just means healthy, harmonious, safe for people and the planet. It means showing respect for ourselves and our resources. It is more interesting and more economical in the long run. It's just better!	By the way, the table set was delivered on Monday and it looks great! It looks so much better at home than at the store. You were right about it fitting in with our other pieces. Great vision Paula!
